Streaming protocols and quality

Moblin streams using RTMP, RTMPS, SRT, SRTLA, RIST, or WHIP, which is WebRTC, to any platform that supports them. Video uses the H.264 and H.265 codecs at up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, with 120 frames per second offered at your own risk. SRTLA and RIST can bond one cellular, one WiFi, and multiple Ethernet connections at the same time, and the app shows upload statistics per active connection. This bonding is the main path to a stable link while moving around with a phone.

Scenes and widgets

The app provides basic scenes with an alerts widget triggered by Twitch events and chat messages, an image widget, and a text widget that can show weather, a timer, subtitles from speech to text, local time, speed, altitude, and more. A browser widget shows a web page only visible to the streamer, a map widget shows location, and a QR code widget is included. Multi camera setups use back, front, or external microphones, with video stabilization, pinch to zoom presets, and recording to an MP4 file with configurable bitrate and key frame interval.

Chat and companion app

Chat support covers Twitch, Kick, YouTube, and SOOP, with emotes from BTTV, FFZ, and 7TV, optional text to speech, and moderation actions like ban, timeout, and delete. An Apple Watch companion app shows a stream preview, audio level, bitrate, iPhone thermal state, and the last 50 chat messages, and it can control zoom, scene switching, going live, recording, and mute. Moblin can also be remote controlled over the network to change scene, microphone, bitrate, or zoom and to show logs.
