DEEP OPEN-SOURCE ANALYSIS

An open source ISP management system built with Next.js

ips-software is a web application that helps internet service providers automate billing, manage hotspots and PPPoE accounts, and monitor router status from one dashboard.

What the project covers

ips-software is a comprehensive ISP management system built with Next.js 14, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Shadcn UI, and Neon DB. The first phase of features focuses on the daily operations of an internet service provider. Payment automation handles billing and sends SMS reminders two days before, one day before, and on the day of disconnection. Hotspot management covers user account creation, bandwidth and data limit controls, and unique login credentials. PPPoE management automates the account lifecycle and integrates with MikroTik routers for real time status monitoring.

How the operations work

The system connects several provider workflows into one place. M-Pesa is listed as the payment integration, and payment confirmation notifications are part of the billing flow. The SMS gateway is described as a cost effective messaging path at about Ksh 0.4 per message for automated notices and payment reminders. An analytics dashboard tracks payment history, bandwidth usage statistics, and overall system health. A second phase adds two factor authentication, a package management system, a self service portal, lead tracking, and real time router status notifications.

Tech stack and setup

The project uses the Next.js 14 App Router with TypeScript and Tailwind CSS for styling plus Shadcn UI components. Data lives in Neon DB, and deployment targets Vercel. To run it locally you need Node.js 18.17 or later with npm, yarn, or pnpm, then clone the repository, install dependencies, and start the dev server on port 3000. The repository notes that authentication is still marked as coming soon in the documented setup.

Editorial conclusion

The software is written in TypeScript with Next.js and is designed for deployment on Vercel, and it lists M-Pesa as its built in payment integration for provider billing.
