PowerPoint to Markdown converter
Turn a .pptx into clean Markdown — one heading per slide, bullets, tables and speaker notes — ready for a RAG corpus or an LLM prompt.
Or choose them. Files are processed in this tab and never uploaded to any server.
Slide decks are where a company's knowledge goes to hide from search. Feeding them to a language model, or indexing them for retrieval, means getting the text out in an order a reader would follow — title, then body, then the table, then the notes — which is exactly what microsoft/markitdown does for PowerPoint. This converter does the same in your browser: it unzips the .pptx, walks each slide's XML in presentation order, and writes Markdown with a heading per slide, the title placeholder as a sub-heading, bullet levels preserved, tables as Markdown tables and the speaker notes quoted underneath.
How it works
- Slides follow the order in presentation.xml, not the file numbering, so a deck whose slides were rearranged converts in the order it is shown.
- Bullet indentation comes from each paragraph's level; a paragraph with bullets turned off stays a plain paragraph.
- Speaker notes are matched to their slide through the relationship files and can be left out with one toggle; pictures are listed by name as image placeholders.
Where your data goes
Nowhere. This tool runs entirely in your browser: the text you paste is processed by the page and is never transmitted to a server or written to a log.
This tool is free and needs no account. Its results exist only in your open page and are not saved anywhere.
What it costs
This tool is free, with no sign-in and no points.
Common questions
- Does it handle .ppt or Keynote files?
- No — only the Office Open XML format (.pptx). Save a .ppt as .pptx in PowerPoint or LibreOffice first, and export a Keynote presentation to PowerPoint. The converter will tell you when a file has no slides it can read.
- What about charts, SmartArt and images with text?
- Charts and SmartArt are stored as drawings, not text, and are skipped; the words inside a picture are not extracted either. For a deck that is mostly screenshots, run the slide images through the OCR tool instead.
- How big a deck can it convert?
- Up to 200 MB, and since only the XML parts are read — never the embedded media — a 150 MB deck full of photos converts as fast as a small one. Word count, table count and the number of notes found are reported in the stats.
The open-source behind it
This tool is a self-contained implementation. microsoft/markitdown (MIT) does the same job as a library — if you need this behaviour inside your own program, start there rather than calling a web page.
